On April 7, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta spoke with radio journalists at State House, where he addressed the recent escape of individuals from the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) quarantine centre.

According to the President, a manhunt is underway to track down the escapees, who will be taken back to the centre to complete the mandatory 14-day quarantine period.

"To those who escaped KMTC quarantine centre, we will find you and take you back to complete the mandatory 14-days quarantine period," President Kenyatta said.

He urged Kenyans to adhere to Covid-19 measures laid down by the Ministry of Health to prevent the further spread of the virus.

On Tuesday, a video was shared on social media showing individuals jumping over the KMTC perimeter wall, where they were in quarantine.

There are fears that the escapees could pose a risk to Kenyans, as some were waiting for their test results.

Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi stated that the Health Ministry had received reports of the escape and was working to track down the individuals.

Kenya has now recorded 296 Covid-19 positive cases.
