On April 22, 2020, Samsung announced that its blood pressure monitoring application, Samsung Health Monitor, had been cleared in its home country, Korea.

This development sets the stage for the app to be made available on Samsung's wearable products, starting with the Galaxy Watch Active 2.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 features more sensitive and accurate Heart Rate Monitoring sensors, enabling users to track their exercise, sleep, stress, and get added healthcare insights.

“By helping users measure and track their blood pressure, the Samsung Health Monitor app gives people greater insight into their health and allows them to make more informed decisions, to lead healthier lives,” a statement from the company introducing the app reads.

While the Galaxy Watch Active 2 can be paired with any Android device, the blood pressure testing will only be possible when the watch is paired with a Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

The Samsung Health Monitor app will be made available in the third quarter of the year, first on the Galaxy Watch Active 2 and later on newer Samsung watches.
