Amnesty International has warned the Premier League over the proposed takeover of Newcastle United by a Saudi Arabian-led consortium.
The human rights group expressed concerns that the takeover could be linked to human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia, citing the country's poor human rights record.
Amnesty International's UK director, Kate Allen, said: 'The Premier League must ensure that any takeover of Newcastle United does not involve individuals or entities linked to human rights abuses.'
The Premier League has not commented on the takeover proposal, but it is understood that the league's owners' and directors' test will be applied to the proposed takeover.
The test requires the Premier League to ensure that the proposed takeover does not involve individuals or entities that could bring the game into disrepute.
