As of today, the Kenya Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund has reached a significant milestone, collecting Sh1.2 billion in donations to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Ms Jane Karuku, chairperson of the fund, the response to the initiative has been overwhelmingly positive, with corporates, foundations, religious institutions, and individuals generously contributing to the cause.
“Corporates, foundations, religious institutions, and individuals have enthusiastically stepped forward to donate to the fund,” Karuku said in a signed statement.
Of the total amount collected, Sh9 million has been raised in cash, while Sh370 million worth of material, food, and non-food items have been donated.
The fund's committee continues to collect money from the public, and a website – www.kenyacovidfund.co.ke – has been set up to provide updates on contributions.
The Kenya Covid-19 fund was established on March 30, 2020, by President Uhuru Kenyatta, with a mandate to support the government's efforts in supplying medical facilities and equipment, as well as supporting vulnerable communities.
