On April 21, 2020, Ruth Matete found herself at the center of a DCI investigation into the death of her husband, John Apewajoye.
According to initial reports, Ruth had told the police that her husband had suffered severe burns after a gas cylinder exploded in the balcony.
However, a viral video posted by a man in Nigeria, claiming to have been the manager of the late John, raised new concerns about the circumstances surrounding his death.
The video's author accused Ruth of being violent towards her husband and suggested that she may have had a hand in his death, citing third-party accounts from first responders.
The DCI detectives have been questioning Ruth for hours, with the case taking a new turn as the Nigerian embassy has given the go-ahead for a post-mortem examination to be conducted on Thursday.
The body has been held at KNH morgue awaiting instructions from the embassy.
