On April 21, 2020, the Italian government was presented with a united front from Serie A clubs, who voted unanimously to complete the 2019-2020 season.
According to a statement from Italy's top flight, the Assembly of the Serie A League met via video conference and confirmed the intention to complete the season, pending government authorization and adherence to health and safety protocols.
As part of the plan, the Italian football federation (FIGC) will meet with Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora to present a medical protocol for the resumption of competition, allowing players to train in small groups under strict supervision from May 4.
Spadafora had previously warned that he would not give assurances for the start of the championship or training on May 4, stating that resuming training did not necessarily mean resuming the championship.
FIGC president Gabriele Gravina expressed hope that club matches could resume in late May or early June, dismissing those who advocated for the cancellation of the season as not liking football or Italians.
