At least two workers lost their lives in a tragic incident at a quarry in Perkerra, Koibatek, Baringo County, after heavy rains triggered a landslide on Monday, April 20, 2020.

The victims, identified as Peter Kadiji and Alex Miroya, were buried under rocks for over four hours before their bodies were recovered at 6 pm. A third person, Joram, who was with them, miraculously escaped with minor injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at around 2 pm, prompting residents, police, and county machinery to join forces in a search and rescue operation.

The quarry, located in the Simotwet area, has since been closed down by the authorities as a precautionary measure to prevent further tragedies.

"Those working in quarries should stop until the rains are over to avoid dangers such as what we have witnessed," said Koibatek Police Commander Maxwell Agoro.
