On Monday morning, a power outage affected parts of Nairobi after a high-voltage underground cable was vandalized overnight. The cable, which evacuates bulk power supply from Embakasi Substation to the City Centre, was damaged near Lang'ata Estate.

According to Kenya Power, the power supply was interrupted in areas including the Central Business District, Gikomba, Lavington, Upper Hill, Kileleshwa, Muthurwa, Kilimani, and sections of Waiyaki Way, Industrial Area, Jogoo Road, and Likoni Road.

However, the company managed to restore power to most areas using alternative lines, but electricity supply remains unstable due to capacity challenges, said Eng. Charles Mwaura, General Manager, Network Management.

A man was arrested after police received a tip-off about the vandalism. Two of his colleagues managed to escape. Recovered items include five pieces of Earth cables, about ten meters long, an adjustable spanner, hacksaw, gloves, and overalls.

The accused is being processed for court.
