Published on April 21, 2020, Absa Bank Kenya PLC has announced a significant contribution of KES50 million to support the efforts towards containing the spread, effects, and impact of COVID-19.
The bank's Managing Director, Jeremy Awori, emphasized the importance of collective action in minimizing the economic and social impact of the pandemic on the country.
"We all can do something, however big or small, that will get us closer to winning the fight against this pandemic. Extending care to our caregivers – the medical workers – is one of the outstanding areas that require urgent support and this is the call we are responding to as an organization," Mr. Awori said.
Of the total contribution, KES20 million will be channeled directly to the Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund towards the acquisition of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and other additional support for health workers.
The remaining KES30 million will be directly invested in various initiatives specifically designed to help individuals and businesses get through this pandemic, including a psychosocial support program and business resilience training and mentorship programs for SMEs.
Mr. Awori applauded the government's relentless efforts towards the containment and elimination of the Coronavirus, saying, "Kenyans are resilient people, always finding ways to overcome challenges and we have no doubt that, though the current situation seems difficult, we shall prevail."
