As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread globally, Boehringer Ingelheim has launched a EUR 555,000 relief fund to support local social enterprises in Kenya, including Access Afya, Healthy Entrepreneurs, and Jacaranda Health.

The fund, which is equivalent to Ksh. 63.9 million, aims to provide financial relief, protective materials, and medicine donations to healthcare institutions and communities in need.

Boehringer Ingelheim's Chairman of the Board of Managing Directors, Hubertus von Baumbach, said, "As a pharmaceuticals company, we feel a strong commitment to offer our help to patients, and to those who help them".

One of the largest pharmaceuticals in the world, Boehringer Ingelheim has also launched a EUR 580,000 relief fund to support the global Making More Health (MMH) network of social entrepreneurs in Kenya and India.

The company has made available EUR 5.8 million for financial and in-kind donations for local emergency aid across its markets, including protective masks, disinfectants, inhalers, and medicines.

Boehringer Ingelheim has also committed to the Innovative Medicines Initiative of the EU (IMI) and joined the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation covid-19 Therapeutic Accelerator.

Since January, a growing team of over 100 Boehringer Ingelheim scientists have contributed to projects aimed at finding potential treatment solutions for COVID-19.
