As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread globally, MyDawa, a digital pharmacy, is seeking Sh200 million in funding to bolster its operations and meet the growing demand for its services.

According to the company's CEO, Tony Wood, the decision to seek additional funding was made after the company recorded a significant surge in demand last month, with 20,000 new users joining the app.

MyDawa has seen a significant increase in transactions, with clients sourcing drugs, family planning products, personal care items, and other essential goods through the app.

Insurance companies have also been funding transactions on the platform, with about 25 companies enrolling their staff on the MyDawa app, where drugs are delivered to ailing employees and bills are paid by the employer.

Normal operations may be halted for a little longer to curb the spread of the virus, but MyDawa is working to enhance its capacity and stock up to meet the growing demand.

“We are seeking additional funding to enable us to enhance our capacity and stock up to meet the growing demand for customers staying at home,” said Tony Wood.

Since the government implemented social distancing and partial lockdown measures, people have been forced to stay at home, leading to a surge in demand for MyDawa's services.
