Outrage over Ethic Entertainment's latest song ¶
April 21, 2020 - Ethic Entertainment's latest song, Soko, has sparked widespread outrage among Kenyans due to its lyrics promoting pedophilia and rape.
The song, which has been trending on social media, has been criticized by fellow Gengetone artiste Peter Miracle Baby, who took to Twitter to express his disappointment and disgust at Ethic's actions.
"Rape culture is a huge NO!" Peter Miracle Baby tweeted. "You 2-bit silly Gengetone artistes and producers I want u to sit ur punk asses down right now and listen! You're killing an industry called the music industry of Kenya when it's already on its knees!"
This is not the first time Ethic Entertainment has faced criticism for their lyrics. In 2020, their song 'Tarimbo' was banned from YouTube due to its lyrics glorifying rape, but it later found its way back onto the platform.
Following the backlash over Soko, Ethic Entertainment issued an apology, stating that they had unintentionally promoted pedophilic culture and promising to release better music content in the future.
However, many Kenyans are not convinced by the apology, with some calling for the group to be held accountable for their actions.
