On April 18, 2020, a task force in South Sudan, led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar, made a decision to deport two Kenyans who had tested positive for COVID-19.
According to a statement seen by Nairobi News, the task force planned to contact the Kenyan Embassy in Nairobi to arrange for the repatriation of the two individuals.
The statement also revealed that the task force had sought permission for a Kenyan aircraft to land at Juba International Airport, with the pilots remaining on board at all times.
South Sudan claimed to have only four confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the time, but the decision to deport the two Kenyans has raised questions about the country's handling of the pandemic.
