On April 20, 2020, Kenya's Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced the launch of a special designated isolation and treatment facility for healthcare workers at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi.

The facility, set up by the Ministry of Health and private health organizations, will offer critical and basic care services to health workers on the frontline in the war against coronavirus.

According to Kagwe, the government will cover all costs incurred at the facility. The Health CS also revealed that 4,759 complete personal protection equipment (PPE) kits and 237,047 assorted components have been distributed to health workers.

As part of efforts to manage the pandemic, the government has announced training of 30,000 healthcare workers, with a target of re-sensitizing 100,000 more in the coming weeks.

Additionally, 1,000 police, 1,000 National Youth Service (NYS) officers, 300 prison officers, and 53,000 community health volunteers have undergone training to enhance community-based surveillance and screening.

Kenya has reported 281 cases of Covid-19, with seven Kenyan nationals and four foreigners testing positive. The government has also quarantined 455 individuals for defying national curfew regulations.

Two patients have recovered, bringing the number of recoveries to 69. So far, 13,872 people have been tested, with plans to expand testing capacity to cover at least one laboratory in each county within the next two weeks.
