On April 18, 2020, a group of fake mourners traveled from Nairobi to Seka village in Karachuonyo constituency, carrying an empty casket. This incident has led to a significant response from the authorities in Homa Bay County.
According to Homa Bay County Commissioner Yatich Kipkemei, the suspects have been quarantined at Homa Bay Town KMTC. The county health officials are yet to take their samples for testing at KEMRI in Kisumu.
Commissioner Kipkemei emphasized that they are still tracing more people who interacted with the victim to ensure all contacts have been quarantined. He also appealed to the residents to work closely with the law enforcing agencies and health officials by giving out information on any person suspected of having traveled from Nairobi.
Following a tip-off by members of the public, the authorities are still tracing two more persons suspected to have sneaked into the county from Nairobi on Saturday evening. The county administration has vowed to prevent anyone from Nairobi from entering the county to prevent further cases of COVID-19.
