On March 2020, a novel COVID-19 case was reported in Sarangombe, an area adjacent to the number 42 terminus in Kibra, Nairobi. This marked the first case in the interior slums of the city.

According to Mike Ayuko, the individual initially experienced difficulty breathing and was rushed to Ushirika Hospital.

"He fell down and developed breathing complications, he was then rushed to Ushirika Hospital where he tested positive for COVID-19," Ayuko stated.

Following the diagnosis, all health officials who handled the individual and those who accompanied him to the hospital were picked for possible isolation and quarantine.

The case has sparked panic among residents in Sarang'ombe and surrounding areas in Kibra slums.
