On Monday morning, residents of Nairobi woke up to a power outage after a section of high-voltage underground cable that provides electricity to the City Centre and its environs was vandalised on Sunday night.
The critical power cable, which evacuates bulk power supply from Embakasi Substation to the City Centre, was vandalised near Langata Estate.
The areas affected by the service disruption include parts of the Central Business District, Gikomba, Lavington, Upper Hill, Kileleshwa, Muthurwa, Kilimani, and sections of Waiyaki Way, Industrial Area, Jogoo Road, and Likoni Road.
According to Kenya Power's General Manager of Network Management, Eng. Charles Mwaura, power has been restored in most areas using alternative lines.
However, electricity supply remains unstable due to capacity challenges, Eng. Mwaura said, adding that the Company is working towards restoring normal power supply.
