On April 20, 2020, Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) chief executive Ezekiel Mutua took action against the song 'Soko' by Ethic Entertainment, reporting it to YouTube and prompting its removal.
Mutua has also called for the arrest and prosecution of the song's producers by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), alleging child abuse and pedophilia.
‘We have gotten in touch with Google, who owns Youtube. We want that channel suspended. That video is disgusting. It’s promoting child abuse and pedophilia, we cannot condone it,’ Mutua said.
He further warned that the KFCB would pursue the matter with the DCI and target the producers, not just the artists, for their role in creating the content.
According to Mutua, the song's lyrics normalize rape culture and pedophilia, which he believes will harm the youth in society.
Issues between Ethic Entertainment and Mutua date back to last year, when the group released the song 'Tarimbo', which some claimed promoted rape.
Mutua stated that 'Soko' was worse than 'Tarimbo', and that the group had been warned previously for their content.
