On a fateful Saturday night, a devastating mudslide struck Pambanic area in Ololulunga Ward, Narok South Sub-county, claiming the life of a three-year-old boy and leaving four others injured.
Narok South Deputy County Commissioner, Mr. Felix Kisalu, confirmed the incident, stating that the affected family of five was sleeping in their house when heavy rains caused the mudslide.
"The injured included three children and their mother, who were rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital, where they are battling for their lives," Kisalu said, adding that it was unfortunate that the family lost their youngest son in the incident.
As the rainy season intensifies, Kisalu urged residents to be vigilant and avoid areas prone to mudslides or floods to prevent loss of lives.
Ololulunga Ward Member of County Assembly, Mr. Jefferson Langat, appealed to the Red Cross and well-wishers to provide donations to the affected families, who have been forced to relocate to higher grounds.
"The rains come as a blessing, but we must also be cautious to avoid the havoc they can cause, especially during this season of long rains," Kisalu cautioned.
Notably, this is not the first time Narok County has experienced mudslides. In 2018, two children lost their lives and their parents were injured in a similar incident at Ol-shapani area in Narok South Sub-county.
