On April 20, 2020, the Kenyan government revealed its plan to evacuate stranded citizens in the United Kingdom, but with a crucial caveat: the evacuees will bear the cost of their air tickets and a mandatory 14-28 day quarantine period upon arrival.

The announcement was made by Kenya's High Commissioner to the UK, Manoah Esipisu, who stated that those interested in returning to Nairobi would need to meet the cost of their air ticket and undergo the quarantine period at their own expense.

According to the High Commissioner, Kenya Airways has agreed to operate a chartered flight, but only if a minimum of 211 passengers are booked. The High Commission has urged those interested to contact them via email or phone to arrange for the flight.

The Kenyan government's decision has sparked outrage among some Kenyans, who feel that the government should bear the cost of evacuating citizens from abroad.
