Kenya: Activist Okiya Omtatah Mourns His Daughter

Human rights activist Okiya Omtatah is mourning the loss of his 21-year-old daughter Maryanne Omtatah, who passed away on April 17, 2020, at Bungoma Hospital.

Maryanne, a third-year student at Riara University, was being treated for malaria at the time of her death.

Her father, Okiya Omtatah, broke the news on social media, saying, "Words cannot explain the pain and sorrow of losing my daughter earlier today. May her soul Rest In Peace."

Messages of condolence poured in from various quarters, including Hon. Esther M Passaris, Philip Etale, Paul Muite SC, Sophie Ikenye, and Lindah Oguttu.

According to her father, Maryanne was the third born in a family of two brothers and a sister, and was pursuing a Diploma course in Diplomacy and International Relations.

She was born on August 8, 1998.
