On April 20, 2020, the homicide unit at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations took over the investigation into the death of Ken Walibora, a respected author and Swahili professor, following an autopsy that revealed he suffered stab wounds.
According to unconfirmed reports, Dr. Walibora was hit by a vehicle while trying to cross a road, but five unidentified people were chasing him at the time.
Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor recommended further investigations after the autopsy results failed to convincingly rule out foul play.
Dr. Oduor stated that the nature of the trauma on Dr. Walibora's right hand was inconsistent with what an accident would have caused, as the wound was caused by a sharp trauma, unlike the blunt trauma typically associated with vehicle accidents.
The police are also studying CCTV footage from the Integrated Command, Control and Communication Directorate to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding Dr. Walibora's death.
