Kenya: COVID-19 Death Toll Rises to 14, Confirmed Cases Reach 270

On April 20, 2020, Kenya's COVID-19 death toll rose to 14 after two more people succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours.

Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi announced the latest fatalities, adding that 8 new virus cases had been confirmed, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 270.

According to Dr. Mwangangi, the 8 new patients, aged between 17 and 65, had no history of travel outside the country.

"Three emanated from our quarantine centres and five were picked by our surveillance teams from various parts of the country," Dr. Mwangangi explained.

The patients were from Mombasa (4), Nairobi (3), and Kajiado (1).

Dr. Mwangangi also announced that 7 more patients had been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 67.

She added that out of the 270 infections, 56% were imported cases, while 46% were from local transmissions.
