On April 19, 2020, ROSATOM, through its Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrate Plants (NCCP), signed a 10-year contract with Egypt to supply components of low-enriched nuclear fuel for the ETRR-2 research reactor.
The contract is a follow-up to a previous 3-year agreement for the shipment of fuel components, including uranium and aluminium. ROSATOM's TVEL will supply the fuel components to El Dabaa's Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) for the duration of the contract.
The agreement also includes the design and construction of a storage facility for all nuclear fuel used in the NPP, to be carried out by Central Design and Technological Institute, a subsidiary of TVEL.
This is evidence of a high level of trust in relations between TVEL Fuel Company and our Egyptian partners. Our facilities have more than 40 years of expertise in batch production of nuclear fuel for research reactors, we are capable of fuel components fabrication for all major types of existing nuclear reactors. — Oleg Grigoriyev, Senior Vice President for Commerce and International Business at TVEL
The ETRR-2 research reactor, located in Inshas, Egypt, is used for research in particle physics, material science, and the production of radioisotopes. It also supplies medical isotopes to the domestic market.
