On February 26, 2020, Olympique Lyonnais secured a crucial 1-0 win over Juventus in the Champions League last-16 first leg at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon, France. The victory was largely thanks to a Lucas Tousart goal in the first half, but coach Rudi Garcia felt his team could have done more.
Speaking after the match, Garcia acknowledged that his team had a chance to hurt Juventus more in the first half, but ultimately failed to capitalize on it. He expressed regret that they did not score another goal, despite having the capacity to do so.
"If we want to qualify we will have to score in the second leg," Garcia emphasized, highlighting the importance of scoring in the return leg in Turin on March 17.
Despite the win, Garcia admitted that Juventus stepped up their game in the second half, making it harder for Lyon to keep possession and create scoring opportunities.
Midfielder Houssem Aouar echoed Garcia's sentiments, warning that the return leg in Italy would be a tough challenge for Lyon. "It's going to be very complicated over there, but we will not go looking to preserve our advantage, we will go full of ambition," Aouar said.
Lyon's last-eight appearance in the Champions League would be their first since 2010, when they reached the semi-finals.
