On Thursday, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo entered the Kenyan budget smartphone market with the launch of the Vivo Y19, a move aimed at increasing quality smartphone penetration and driving affordability in the country.
According to Vivo Kenya chief executive Arthur Xian, the company is keen on being the leading maker of budget smartphones with the right features to make the gadgets sell themselves.
Speaking during the launch of the phone in Nairobi, Mr. Xian said, "As a leading smartphone brand, we are keen to meet the increasing demand of quality devices and better user experience in this market. We are aiming to offer more options of devices with high-quality standard and comprehensive functionality at affordable prices."
The Vivo Y19 features a 6.53-inch FHD + Halo display, an Octa-core Mediatek’s Helio P65 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. It also has a triple rear camera setup, a 16-megapixel selfie camera, and a 5000mAh non-removable battery with support for 18W dual-engine fast charging.
The device will be available countrywide in two variant colors – Magnetic Black and Spring White – and will retail at Ksh26,999.
With the launch of the Vivo Y19, Vivo joins the Y- series which include the Y12, Y15, and Y17 currently retailing in stores countrywide.
