Kenyan Artistes' Collaboration Conundrum ¶
Published on January 15, 2020
Kenyan artistes have been accused of being lazy and lacking in creativity, particularly when it comes to collaborations with their East African peers. Instead of seeking out talented artistes from neighboring countries, they often opt for Tanzanian artistes who are no longer prominent in the music scene.
One notable example is Nameless, who could have collaborated with Darassa when he was still a rising star in Tanzania. Similarly, Akothee is one of the few Kenyan artistes who has successfully collaborated with Diamond Platinumz, a Tanzanian music icon.
However, many Kenyan artistes seem to be stuck in a rut, relying on the same tired collaborations with artistes who are no longer relevant. This lack of creativity and willingness to take risks is a major obstacle to their success in the music industry.
As Willy Paul and Tanasha have demonstrated, collaborating with talented artistes from other countries can be a great way to gain exposure and build a reputation. It's time for Kenyan artistes to take a cue from their East African counterparts and start seeking out new and exciting collaborations.
Only by taking risks and pushing the boundaries of what is possible can Kenyan artistes truly make a name for themselves in the music industry.
