Kenyan Premier League clubs have been struggling to honour matches since their previous sponsor, SportPesa, stopped funding the tournament in August 2019.

However, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa is optimistic that the situation will soon change for the better.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event where he unveiled betting firm Betway as the official sponsors of the domestic cup, Mwendwa said, 'We understand the concerns of Kenyan Premier League clubs, but I am certain the situation will soon change for the better.'

The deal with Betway, worth Sh45 million over three years, is set to take effect in August when FKF takes over the running of the top flight league.

During the period, the tournament will be renamed Betway Cup.
