Commuters on the Syokimau-Imara Daima-Makadara-CBD train faced an unexpected delay on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, when the train was forced to return to Syokimau station due to a mechanical problem.
According to sources at Kenya Railways, the train was experiencing unusual braking issues, which prompted the management to send a locomotive from Makadara to assist.
“Passengers had to be returned to Syokimau station after the management sent a locomotive from Makadara to pull it,” said a source at Kenya Railways, speaking to Nairobi News.
The only communication on the incident was a message posted on the Kenya Railways official Telegram group at 7:21 am on Wednesday morning, stating: “Train applying unusual braking. Assisting loco being released from Makadara.”
The incident comes after hundreds of commuters were left stranded on Monday morning due to the cancellation of the Syokimau commuter train service, which was attributed to heavy rainfall in Nairobi on Sunday night.
