Published on January 15, 2020, James Murdoch, the younger son of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, has publicly criticized his family's media empire for its handling of climate change.
According to a report by AFP, James Murdoch and his wife Kathryn have expressed their disappointment with the way their family's company, News Corp, has covered climate change, particularly in Australia.
"They are particularly disappointed with the ongoing denial among the news outlets in Australia given obvious evidence to the contrary," a spokesperson for the couple was quoted as saying.
James Murdoch has largely disengaged from the media empire built by his father, which began with a newspaper group in Australia. He has launched his own private holding company called Lupa Systems, which has taken a stake in Vice Media.
The family's rebuke comes amid raging bushfires in Australia that have killed at least 27 people, destroyed more than 2,000 homes, and burned 10 million hectares of land.
