Kenya's Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a price hike for petrol, diesel, and kerosene, effective January 15, 2020.
The new prices will remain in place until February 14, 2020, and include an 8% VAT and revised rates for the Railway Development Levy and Import Declaration Fee, as per the Finance Act 2019.
According to EPRA, the price increase is due to the rising cost of importation, with the cost of importing super petrol increasing by 2.21% to $471.01 per cubic meter in December 2019, compared to $460.83 in November.
Similarly, the cost of importing diesel rose by 1.73% to $493.83 per cubic meter, while kerosene increased by 5.75% to $508.77 per cubic meter.
As a result, motorists can expect to pay an additional 70 cents, 54 cents, and KSh 1.64 per liter for super petrol, diesel, and kerosene, respectively.
