Kenya Volleyball Federation Clubs Secretary General Kasujaa Onyonyi has taken over the reins of the local volleyball clubs, but his first challenge is a daunting one - the dwindling standards of the game.
Onyonyi, who was elected in absentia on Saturday, January 11, 2020, during the clubs and team managers' election, succeeds Neddy Kilimo of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation as vice chairperson.
As the new season gets underway next month, Onyonyi has warned that the low number of teams will make the competition less intense. He cited the example of the Kenya Army team, which pulled out of the league, leaving only seven clubs to challenge for the title.
“Last year there were eight clubs in the league, but during the draws on Saturday, Kenya Army pulled out, leaving only seven clubs to challenge for the title,” Onyonyi lamented, who also doubles up as the Kenya Pipeline's team manager.
Onyonyi welcomed the inclusion of new clubs Rift Valley Prisons and Kenya Forest Service (KSF), formerly Kenya Forest Rangers, who are making a comeback to the league. Other officials elected include Nicholas Bitok (chairman) from Equity Bank and Nicholas Kimeli (treasurer) from GSU.
