On January 14, 2020, US Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter visited Kisii County, where he met with Governor James Ongwae to discuss ways to improve service delivery in various sectors.
McCarter emphasized the need to move away from relying heavily on aid and focus on strengthening trade ties between the two countries. He noted that Kenya has great assets in its people and expressed the US government's commitment to supporting various sectors in the economy.
The ambassador toured various developmental projects in the county, including the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital and the newly built fire station. He commended Governor Ongwae's commitment to service delivery, particularly in the health sector.
During the meeting, Ongwae and McCarter discussed ways to support the health sector, disaster management, and the development of the Kisii Soapstone industry. Ongwae expressed his administration's commitment to ensuring locals receive proper healthcare and creating job opportunities at the proposed new hospital in Magenche ward, Bomachoge Borabu.
