Kenya Morans, the country's national basketball team, made a resounding statement in their first match of the Fiba Afro Basketball Pre-qualifiers, defeating Eritrea 112-64 at the Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium on January 14, 2020.
France-based Robert Nyakundi was instrumental in the team's victory, showcasing his skills with a combination of shots, handles, and well-executed post plays that left the Eritrean team struggling to keep up.
Coach Cliff Owuor praised the team's performance, stating, "We needed to take a comfortable lead then cool it down as we plan for more tougher fixtures from tomorrow," adding that he was happy with the team's general performance.
The win sets the stage for a crucial match against Tanzania on Wednesday, which Kenya is expected to win easily, given their previous encounter in the AfroCan Zone Five qualifiers in Kampala last year, where they emerged victorious with a score of 97-46.
Foreign-based stars, including Robert Nyakundi, Desmond Owili, Bush Wamukota, and Mike Makiadi, will be crucial in Kenya's bid to tilt the scores in their favour.
