On January 14, 2020, a Kenyan labour court made a landmark ruling in a case involving racial bias against the Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri).

The court awarded each of the doctors Sh5 million as compensation for alleged racial bias. However, Kemri has since appealed the decision.
