President Uhuru Kenyatta's cabinet reshuffle on January 14, 2020 has left many Kenyans in awe. In a national address, the President announced the sacking of Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri and the appointment of new ministers to various dockets.
Among the notable changes, Foreign Affairs CS Raychelle Omamo, Water and Sanitation CS Sicily Kariuki, Treasury CS Ukur Yatani, Trade CS Betty Maina, Defence CS Monica Juma, Agriculture CS Peter Munya, Labour CS Simon Chelugui, and Sports CS Joe Okudo have been appointed or reassigned.
Betty Maina, the only new woman appointed to the cabinet, brings a wealth of experience in economics to her new role. She has previously worked with the Kenya Association of Manufacturers, the Institute of Economic Affairs, the Center for International Private Enterprise, and the Kenya Leadership Institute.
Ms. Maina has also served on Denmark's Africa Commission and currently sits on various boards in the public sector. Her appointment has been met with optimism, with many hoping she will bring a fresh perspective to the cabinet.
