Kenya: Uhuru Kenyatta Announces Cabinet Reshuffle in Mombasa

President Uhuru Kenyatta has made significant changes to his Cabinet, dropping two ministers and appointing new ones in a reshuffle announced in Mombasa on January 14, 2020.

Among those dropped from the Cabinet are former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri and former National Treasury boss Henry Rotich, who was replaced by acting Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani.

Mr. Kiunjuri was replaced by Peter Munya, who took over as the new Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, while Mr. Yattani was confirmed as the National Treasury Cabinet Secretary.

Other changes included the move of CS Rachel Omamo to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sicily Kariuki to the Water ministry, and Monica Juma to the Defence ministry.

President Kenyatta also made new nominations to the Cabinet, including:

  • Mutahi Kagwe as the new Health Cabinet Secretary
  • Betty Maina as the new Industrialisation Cabinet Secretary
  • John Weru as the new Principal Secretary for Trade
  • Dr. Jwan Ouma as the new Principal Secretary for Vocational and Technical Training
  • Mary Kimunye as the new Principal Secretary for Public Service
  • Simon Nabukwesi as the new Principal Secretary for University Education and Research
  • Solomon Kitungu as the new Principal Secretary for Transport
  • Enoch Momanyi Onyango as the new Principal Secretary for Physical Planning
