January 14, 2020, marked a significant escalation in the Middle East, with the United States killing Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, head of the Al Quds brigade. This high-tech attack serves as a powerful reminder of the Americans' capabilities and their willingness to use force to achieve their goals.

The United States has a long history of involvement in military conflicts around the world, with a presence in over 150 countries. This extensive reach has earned them a reputation as a global power, with a penchant for governing the world through war.

General Soleimani was a complex figure, with a romanticized image reminiscent of Che Guevara. However, his support from the Iranian Mullahcracy and his involvement in military adventures raised concerns about his actions.

The timing of Soleimani's visit to Iraq and his failure to take adequate precautions may have contributed to his demise. The current tensions, fueled by Donald Trump's determination to assert his authority, have created a volatile environment.

As one of the eight commanders of the Revolutionary Guard, Soleimani played a crucial role in Iran's defense forces. His influence in the region was significant, and his replacement has been made, sending a clear message to both Jerusalem and Washington.

Iran's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and Soleimani's role in the Quds brigade have made him a target for those who oppose the Zionist occupation. The international community has recognized Jerusalem as the capital city of a future Palestinian state, but the ultra-hardline Zionists and their backers, including Trump, seek to prevent this.

Benjamin Netanyahu's relentless pursuit of occupation and land grab has condemned the Palestinians to a permanent refugee status. The assassination of Soleimani has emboldened this diehard clique, leading to further regional instability and potentially more terror attacks.

As we navigate this treacherous world, it is unclear whether norms of civilized behavior will be respected, or if diplomacy will continue to be conducted through assassination. The absence of hope for a more peaceful future is a worrying sign.

John Simpson's book, A Mad World, My Masters, highlights the complexities of global politics and the influence of various characters on world events. While some of these individuals may have mellowed with time, there are still enough 'madmen' to go around, making it essential for organizations like the United Nations to develop diplomatic tools to restrain them.
