On January 14, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the nation from State House in Mombasa, dismissing divisions among the political class regarding the popularization of the Building Bridges Initiative report.
According to the President, his administration is focused on ensuring the culture of 'winner takes all' in general elections comes to an end.
He emphasized his determination to build his legacy by uniting all 47 million Kenyans, stating that he wants to go down in history as the president who brought to an end electoral violence.
President Kenyatta expressed confidence that his Executive Order No 1 of 2019 will ensure landmark ramifications on the structure and character of the governance system, and that time is ripe for a different political template and building of a national consensus through the BBI.
The BBI Steering committee, gazetted on Monday, has been tasked with conducting validation of the 14-member BBI taskforce report through consultations with citizens, civil society, faith-based organizations, cultural leaders, the private sector, and experts.
The team is also tasked with proposing administrative, policy, statutory, or constitutional changes necessary for the implementation of the recommendations as contained in the task force report.
