Published on January 14, 2020, Tanzania's ambassador to China, Mbelwa Kairuki, has outlined plans to digitally promote the country's tourism services to Chinese tourists.
Speaking to tourism players and investors in Arusha, Mr Kairuki emphasized the importance of meeting Chinese tourists on their own turf, which is online.
The embassy is creating an online booking platform specifically for promoting Tanzania's tourism services in China, featuring a reservation and booking app, Chinese social media apps, and marketing and advertising space.
Chinese companies will be expected to have WeChat QR codes on the website, as WeChat is China's top social media platform, synced with financial and translation services.
According to Mr Kairuki, a WeChat account will facilitate communication with Chinese customers, making it easier for Tanzanian companies to market themselves to this demographic.
The Tanzania embassy in China is already creating a website using 5G technology, hosted in China specifically for promoting Tanzania's tourist attractions to Chinese tourists.
Mr Kairuki also announced that the embassy is liaising with a marketing firm in Shanghai to promote the website on Chinese social media platforms.
He urged all players to participate in the three-day China Outbound Travel and Tourism Market, beginning on April 1.
