Tusker FC's impressive form continued as they extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches, with a comeback victory against Bandari over the weekend.
The win saw the 2016 champions bag their third consecutive win, remaining top of the Kenya Premier League (KPL) table with 37 points, one more than second-placed Kakamega Homeboyz.
Robert Matano, Tusker's coach, expressed confidence in his team's ability to continue winning matches, despite being only five points ahead of league favourites Gor Mahia, who have a healthy three games in hand.
'We know Gor have the advantage because of the game in hand but that has nothing to do with us for our goal is to keep winning matches,' Matano said.
His counterpart, Nicholas Muyoti of Kakamega Homeboyz, downplayed the title credentials, terming it too early.
'Beating Gor Mahia does not mean we are going to win the title but it is a morale booster for the players ahead of crunch ties against difficult opponents,' Muyoti said.
Gor Mahia slipped to fourth in the standings after their loss in Kakamega, but head coach Steven Polack remains optimistic.
'The league is still wide open and believes they can still recapture their top spot from Tusker by winning all their three games in hand,' Polack said.
Ulinzi Stars moved into third place with 34 points after their massive 3-2 comeback win over Western Stima, while KCB's victory against relegation-bound Chemeli Sugar saw the bankers move joint fourth with Gor Mahia on 32 points.
