On January 14, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta made significant changes to his cabinet, announcing the sacking of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri and the re-assignment of several other ministers.
From State House in Mombasa, President Kenyatta announced the changes, which included the nomination of former Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe as the new Health Cabinet Secretary.
Former Industrialisation Principal Secretary Betty Maina was nominated to take over as the new Industrialisation Cabinet Secretary, while Sicily Kariuki moved from the Health Ministry to the Water and Irrigation Ministry, replacing Simon Chelugui who was re-assigned to the Labour Ministry.
President Kenyatta also confirmed the permanent appointment of Ambassador Ukur Yatani as Treasury Cabinet Secretary, ending his dual role as Acting Treasury Cabinet Secretary and Labour Cabinet Secretary.
Additionally, the President moved Raychelle Omamo from the Defence Ministry to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, swapping places with Ambassador Monica Juma.
