Published on January 14, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta has made significant changes to his cabinet, firing Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri and nominating new cabinet secretaries.
According to sources, Kiunjuri's removal has sparked confusion over the fate of Adan Mohammed, who was initially believed to have been fired. However, it has been confirmed that Mohammed will now take on the role of Cabinet Secretary for the East Africa Community docket.
President Kenyatta has nominated Nyeri politician Mutahi Kagwe as the new Cabinet Secretary for Health and Betty Maina as the Cabinet Secretary for Trade.
Other notable changes include the transfer of Cabinet Secretary Rachel Omamo from the Ministry of Defense to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peter Munya from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Ministry of Agriculture, Monica Juma from the Ministry of Agriculture to the Ministry of Defense, and Ukur Yattani from the Ministry of Defense to the National Treasury.
