On January 14, 2020, a man clad in civilian clothes sparked panic in Asmara, Pangani after being spotted walking around with an AK47 rifle.
Police received several calls about the incident and quickly responded, arresting the man and taking him in for questioning.
During the questioning, the man claimed to be a police officer stationed in Dadaab, but it was later established that he was indeed an AP officer who had left his gun at Pangani and was heading to Muthaiga to join his colleagues.
Kenya's gun rules dictate that armed police officers do not unnecessarily display their firearms when dressed in civilian clothes.
Police have not commented further on the incident.
