President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga's allies have intensified their attack on Deputy President William Ruto, calling for his resignation from Jubilee Party.

On Monday, 12 lawmakers allied to the President and ODM leader told Ruto to step down, citing his opposition to government initiatives and the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.

The MPs, led by National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohamed, accused Ruto of rebelling against the BBI report, which has the blessings of President Kenyatta, and using Odinga as a scapegoat for his opposition to the document.

They also dismissed claims by Ruto's allies that the BBI consultative meetings will cost taxpayers Sh10 billion, saying this was propaganda meant to whip public emotions against the process.

On Friday, Ruto had dismissed the BBI forums, saying they were meant to misuse public funds, but the MPs argued that there was nothing wrong with leaders going to the grassroots to teach people about the contents of the BBI report.
