On January 14, 2020, Machakos County Police Commander Karanja Muiruri announced a crackdown on strip clubs in the town, following an increase in the number of such establishments.

Four women, suspected of promoting pornography, were arrested over the weekend while performing at a strip club in Machakos town. The women were dressed in only their bras and panties when they were arrested.

According to Mr. Muiruri, the women will be charged with promoting pornography. He stated that the police operation was conducted in response to complaints from the public about the presence of strippers in the town.

Mr. Muiruri expressed concern that strippers have become a menace in the town, luring many young girls into the business. He also revealed that his office has information that some night clubs in Machakos town have been soliciting the services of strippers to attract gullible male patrons.

The police boss vowed to remain vigilant and conduct regular raids on such clubs to clamp down on the business. He stated that the government will not allow such illegal activities to thrive in the area.
