On January 14, 2020, Governor Cornell Rasanga, Senator James Orengo, and several Members of Parliament from Siaya County met with the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) leadership to address the ongoing leadership wrangles in the Maseno West diocese.

The leaders, who included MPs Sam Atandi, Opiyo Wandayi, and David Ochieng, asked the area bishop, John Godia, to convene a special synod meeting to resolve the issues.

They rejected calls to split the diocese into two, as demanded by some priests and Christians, and instead urged the clergy and Christians to work together under one bishop and one church.

Senator Orengo emphasized the importance of unity, saying, "Good leaders are chosen by God. I urge the clergy and Christians to understand we have only one bishop and one church to serve God. If we serve God in truth and good deeds, we will realise development."

The leaders' call for a truce comes after several church members and clergy from the Ramula and Regea Deaneries wrote a petition seeking to form a new Maseno Central diocese.
