January 13, 2020, marked the end of an era for Ugandan international George Abege, as Ghanaian Premier League giants Asante Kotoko released him from his contract.

Abege, who joined the club on a three-year deal mid-last year, found the going tough at the club, scoring only a couple of goals in friendlies but failing to cement his position in the team.

According to sources, the club and player have agreed to terminate the contract, citing non-performance as the reason for the release.

Despite being one of the highest-earning players in the Ghanaian Premier League, Abege was reportedly rejected by several clubs, including King Feisak and Techiman, when Kotoko tried to offer him out on loan.

Asante Kotoko has since moved on, announcing the capture of highly-rated forward William Opuku Mensah earlier today.
