January 13, 2020, marked a tense day for Kenyan bar owners as they threatened to boycott beer from manufacturers East Africa Brewery and Keroche Industries. The dispute centers around the engraving of 500ml Euro beer bottles, which has led to unnecessary problems for bar owners.

According to Boniface Gachoka of Nakuru, the engraving of universal bottles has resulted in bar owners being charged with counterfeit and sale of unaccustomed goods. Meanwhile, the manufacturers are not held accountable for their actions. 'This criminalizes the way we do business,' Gachoka said.

Richard Kagiri of Kiambu echoed Gachoka's sentiments, stating, 'Once you buy goods, they belong to you. Why would their fights lead to the arrest of our people?' Kagiri also announced that bar owners have resolved to call for a boycott against any manufacturer who wants to cause confusion in the market.

The bar owners are seeking redress in court and have asked the two companies to cease their fight and allow them to do business in peace.
