On January 13, 2020, a severe rainstorm hit Nairobi, causing widespread flooding and disruptions to public transportation.

Kenya Railways cancelled the Syokimau-Imara Daima-Makadara-CBD commuter train service, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded.

According to a source at Kenya Railways, the cancellation was due to the heavy rain that caused floods along the rail, making the track impassable.

"There was floods along the rail making the track impassable and that also affected the Kikuyu commuter train," the source said in a statement to Nairobi News.

Kenya Railways notified commuters through a message on their official Telegram group at 4am on Monday morning, stating that the morning trains were not running due to floods.

However, the message appears to have been missed by many commuters, who were left to wait for buses in the rain.
